'Something Witchy?'--or something else? THE WRITING ON THE WALL
The whole point of Helter Skelter, we are told, was to send a signal to get the blacks to start slaughtering the rich whites up in the hills, which would then kick off the final racial war. But how exactly that message was to be transmitted is a mystery.
Charlie famously told the Cielo crew to 'leave a sign--something witchy' as they were leaving the ranch. Now when I think of 'witchy' I think of something occult-related, like an upside down pentagram, an upside down cross, the numbers 666, the word 'satan,' etc. But the signs pointed both to the Black Panthers and straight back to Helter Skelter and Charlie.
Who did the bloody writing on the walls, and how did it come about?
Hinman crime scene: paw print(Beausoleil), "Political Piggy"(Beausoleil)
Danny DeCarlo 1969 interview
I can't exactly remember -- remember exactly what the words were that he(BB) put on there, but he put it in Gary's blood.
Q: Did he say why he put that on the wall?
A: Well, it deviated toward the Black Panther.
2003 BB Parole Hearing
INMATE BEAUSOLEIL: I did that... to kind of try to make it look like it had been Gary Hinman's cohorts who had killed him.
2008 BB Parole Hearing
PRESIDING COMMISSIONER ANDERSON: And why was there writing on the wall for?
INMATE BEAUSOLEIL: It was an attempt to -- to throw the -- any -- the police off the trail, to make it look like it was one of Hinman's revolutionary cohorts. .... I just knew that he had affiliations with radical groups at UCLA, so I tried to make it look ... like it was something political.
Tate crime scene: "Pig" (Atkins)
A: Then Tex told me to go back into the house and write something on the door in one of the victim's blood.
Q: Did he tell you what to write?
A: He said, "Write something that would shock the world." ... I had previously been involved in something similar to this where I saw political piggy written on the wall so that stuck very heavily in my mind.
LaBianca crime scene: "Healter Skelter"(Krenwinkle) "Death to Pigs"(Krenwinkle) "Rise"(Krenwinkle) "War"(inscribed in Leno's torso by Krenwinkle)
Krenwinkel 2016 Parole Hearing
PRESIDING COMMISSIONER CHAPPELL: So why did you choose to write the word Death to Pigs on the LaBianca residence wall?
INMATE KRENWINKEL: A lot of that came out of Manson's interest in some of these songs and some of the things that were going around at that time and there was a lot of that being, that was a lot of that being said in relation to the sixties and some of the things that were going on. And like I said, in the music and some of that -- Manson used that term a lot.
PRESIDING COMMISSIONER CHAPPELL: So did someone instruct you to do that -- write that on the wall?
INMATE KRENWINKEL: No, they didn't.
PRESIDING COMMISSIONER CHAPPELL: So you did that on your own?
INMATE KRENWINKEL: Yes. ...
PRESIDING COMMISSIONER CHAPPELL: So you did it on your own. So why did you choose to do that, though?
INMATE KRENWINKEL: I honestly don't know. It's just that it was a -- terms that were going around at the ranch.
So Bobby made up the words to blame the Panthers. Atkins made up the word to shock the world. And Krenwinkle made up the words because they were used a lot up at Spahn. And thus it is entirely coincidental that variations of the word "Pig," written in blood, were found at all the crime scenes. I find this hard to believe.
Given the amount of control that Charlie exercised over the minds of the bubbleheads, it was most likely Charlie's idea to put bloody writing on the wall, and he told them exactly what to write--at all three crime scenes.
Watson 1978 Parole Hearing
But I was told what to do, and I was told in the order to do it and the steps to do it.... And he(Charlie) had already told the girls what to do, which is writing on the wall and things like that, and that I didn't have to worry about that.
Watson 2016 Parole Hearing
INMATE WATSON: So he told me that he had already instructed the girls what to do.
INMATE WATSON: ... he said I've already told the girls what to do and that when he put his head in the car he said remember to do something witchy, you know. I guess he had told them to write on the walls and things like that.

Tex Watson, Will You Die For Me?
pg71of120 "....we were to... write messages on the walls in their blood. When he started listing what he wanted written — things like HELTER SKELTER and RISE — I told him I couldn't remember all that. But he said it was okay; the girls would know what to write."
Manson Case Files Box 10 pg404of446
Susan Atkins interview with Paul Caruso
"...the only thing I remember being instructed to write on the door was "Pig" so I proceeded to take my hand and write "Pig" with the towel and threw the towel back and ran outside."
Bugliosi, pg331-2(paperback version):
Brooks Posten: "He(Manson) said a group of real blacks would come out of the ghettos and do an atrocious crime... They would do an atrocious murder with stabbing, killing, cutting bodies to pieces, smearing blood on the walls, writing 'pigs' on the walls... in the victim's own blood." ...
Bugliosi: The conversation had occurred in February 1969, at the Gresham Street house.... ...six months before the Tate-LaBianca murders Charles Manson was telling the Family exactly how the murders would occur, complete even to writing "pigs" in the victim's own blood.
As I pointed out in a recent post, the word "Pig" as a slur against the police had been invented by the Panthers, and as Beausoleil has admitted, the writing was supposed to deflect attention to that group. At least at the Hinman crime scene. But what about TLB? Was "Pig/Death to Pigs" supposed to deflect back to the Panthers, or was "Pig/Death to Pigs" supposed to refer to the victims themselves, in the way Beatle George Harrison had used the term in his White Album song "Piggies?"
