This is an amazing example of the computer age in my opinion.
A man named Pete contacted the mansonblog looking for pictures of himself with Shorty Shea at Spahn Ranch. Pete, as a 10 year old kid, was mentored by Shorty Shea at Spahn Ranch in pursuit of his childhood dream to become a stuntman. Matt over at mansonblog posted Pete's request looking for pics. This led to Stoner van houten meeting up with Pete at Spahn Ranch and interviewing Pete for an hour!!! It's amazing it all came together in under 48 hours!!
HOMERUN all you guys !!!!
Do yourself a favor and watch this video!! It is one of the sweetest, most refreshing testimonials to ever come out about Shorty--at least that I have come across. Pete is utterly charming, delightful and so sincere in his respect and love for Shorty. It was such a treat to listen to him!! Not to mention stories like Tex taking him and all the others out for ice cream and Charlie being the first person he met at Spahn. You will NOT regret this hour!!
Wasn't it though!!! I was just tickled by Pete!! He seemed honest and forthright--not trying to embellish or sanitize, just the memories of an unadulterated 10 yr old with a passion for being a stuntman. He didn't try to demonize anyone, just told it straight out. He was very charming and refreshing. I'm sure Shorty wasn't perfect and had his faults, but I was charmed by Pete's memories of Shorty being a stand-up guy, at least to him. I really felt for that 10 yr old little Pete who lost his friend and coming across Charlie and Tex after Shorty disappeared, just chilled me to the bone.
I think the best, most heart-warming visual I take away from his memories is of him on his little mini-bike driving to and from his house to Spahn, while his mom was never the wiser!!! The whole "You gotta get home before dark" brought back the innocence of those times.
